What is ULEZ?

There’s a lot of misinformation regarding ULEZ – which is why we’re here to present you with the facts.

The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) was first announced in the summer of 2014 by then Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, and was backed by the Prime Minister of the time, David Cameron. Its purpose is to improve air quality in the capital by reducing the use of vehicles that don’t meet Transport for London emissions standards.

What areas are affected by ULEZ? Following its 29 August 2023 expansion, ULEZ now covers all London boroughs and the City of London.
